Happy almost Halloween! The Halloween party will kick off at 1 with a parade around the school, followed by the costume contest and movies and games. Try to get kids to clean up the classrooms during the day because we won’t be back until Wednesday. If you have any questions about conferences please check in with Meredith today.

I promised at the start of the year that I’d use this space to share some diagrams from Carol Tomlinson’s book about how to differentiate instruction. Here is today’s graphic, which outlines the flow of instruction in a differentiated classroom. It’s excellent.

Hello! Fire and violent intruder drills will happen today at 1. Here's what we'll do: Everyone in all grades meet in the main commons at 1 and we will quickly talk through what the drills will be and why we're doing them. Students will then go to their advisories and teachers will watch the chat. I will post "Secure" and students will need to be quiet and that's about it. I will then post "Lockdown" and students will need to hide out of sight of the window/s. Lock your classroom door if you can. I don't want people moving furniture around unnecessarily, but talk through with your class what furniture you might move to block the door if you had to.  Once you've signaled on the chat that students have successfully hidden, we will move on to the fire drill. This will go as normal. I will post "Fire" on the chat and students will leave by the designated door and meet up on the grassy area near the swings. Please point out to your adviso...

Hi everyone - goes without saying that if you haven't finished your progress reports yet please make that happen right away. Today there's a middle school field trip to Wiard's (have fun!). Coach and Sabrina will be on the trip with the kids.

Good morning! PD is online starting at 9 am. We will meet from 9-10, then work on progress reports.  From 9-10 we will review the progress report format briefly, then go over the My Conference Time format that families will use to register for their conferences. I need to make sure that everyone can access their account, that all the Google Meet links are working, and that everyone's schedule is looking right.  We will meet using the meeting link on the Faculty Google Classroom, or click here to join . 

Reminders: Family Coffee Hour in the main commons today at 8:30 am.  Please make sure you're signed into the My Conference Time system - we will be talking through how to use it tomorrow at PD Please take a minute today to tell a kid who is really challenging how good they are at something. 

Faculty meeting today! 3:15 in The Expanse or join online. Click here for the agenda . PD Day this Friday - plan is to meet online from 9-10 am to go over procedures and schedules for conferences. Please be sure to accept the email that was sent to you from My Conference Time (do a search of your email if you can't find it). This is how we will be doing the signups this year. Monday is a day off - enjoy the long weekend :)

Payroll will be run tomorrow, so please be sure your hours are in ( click here for the form ) This YouTube channel is great PD - it's an elementary school counselor who has some great strategies for classroom management that really aligns with our values as a school

We are getting very close to progress report time, so please be sure to review for yourself what CSCs you've been working on with your classes and how each student is doing. The CSCs are available via the faculty dashboard. Progress report forms for the students will be set up later this week, and progress reports will be due on Wednesday, October 21. The PD day on October 16 will have some time embedded in it to work on the reports.

It's the weekend! Take a moment today to send a couple of emails or texts to the families of some kids that are doing really well in your classes. Focus on new students since we're early in the year. This sort of communication means the world to families. You can easily access the student directory in the faculty dashboard and the link is also just to your right as you're looking at this announcement.

Please stay on top of the teacher reports that the service providers ask you to complete. It's hard for teachers that attend the service plan meetings to learn that only one or two teachers have responded - it feels icky. October is Learning Disabilities Awareness Month . This is a great opportunity to teach students about how their brains and their peers' brains work. There are some great classroom resources available - click here .

It's Hispanic Heritage Month ! Please be sure to study and commemorate this in your classes to the greatest extent possible. The commemoration officially ends on October 15, so you have time to do some cool stuff if you haven't already. Here are some ideas and resources.  Victor has been doing a lot of stuff in his class so please reach out to him as well for some ideas and opportunities for collaboration.

Reminders for today are: College rep from Prescott College in Arizona in The Expanse at 10:15 for interested students to meet wtih Scholastic Book Fair student browsing time from 1:30-3:30 today - bring your students out to browse the fair and purchase books or prepare a wish list for their family to purchase during Curriculum Night 5 pm in The Expanse - dinner for the faculty 6-7 pm in the main building - Curriculum Night
